Martin DJ'ing...
post date: May 1st, 2007
Those of you who visit our official message board know that sometimes we announce special news items only on the message board. The recent Martin Gore DJ event, on April 29th, in Santa Barbara, is a perfect example. While normally these charity events are only announced a day or two in advance (to keep the crowds to a minimum), this time the news was announced two weeks ahead of time. Oops!
Due to the early announcement on the message board, there were still people lined up outside of the small pub, over an hour into the event (hence why such small appearances are not usually mentioned here on the main News page). Overall, a great time was had by all. Martin's brought in his own sound system, so the sound was better than ever, and people were dancing until the very end.
Want to know the next time Martin is spinning in Santa Barbara? Watch our official message board!

2009-03-29 - Old Kings Road Pub - Martin DJing

Martin did an unannounced DJ did at his local pub again. According to a Depeche Mode forum, "Apparently, Sunday night is the preferred day for Martin Gore to bring out his work as a DJ, always in charity events. This happened on March 29 when he appeared at the Old Kings Road bar in Santa Barbara, California. Andrew Fletcher was also present. The event was held to support one of the waiters in the place who needs surgery."

What electronic music do you like now?
I DJ about two or three times a year, and I listen to a lot of dance music. My favorite artist at the moment is somebody called Rekorder. I think there's a lot of good electronic dance music that's being made. Personally, I think the majority of the challenging and interesting stuff is coming out of Europe. This may sound sacrilegious over here, but the American dance scene has been stuck in a time warp for the past 20 years. It doesn't seem to move. The whole house scene seems to be the prevalent one.

(...)

(...)

Translation by me:

(...)

Talking about instrumental stuff, you also DJ from time to time and I know you’re very interested in labels such as Rekids, Playhouse, or Kompakt. Did you ever think about releasing more club-orientated tracks under your own name or an alias ?
Martin Gore – I already thought about that many times. I guess but the main problem is that I don’t have that much time, really. We all have children and it’s actually nice to lead a normal life sometimes (laughter). But I’d definitely like to do that and I’ll most probably do it one of these days.

2010-01-18 - Beatport (U.S.) - Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore 10 'Essential tracks'

http://www.beatportal.com/feed/item/dj-chart-depeche-modes-martin-gore/

DJ chart: Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore
Written by: Zack Rico

If you’ve seen electronic music pioneers Depeche Mode play live, you’ll know that their pre show music tends to feature mainly contemporary techno.
What you may not know though, is that the band’s Martin Gore selects all the pre show tunes himself, as he’s a huge fan of electronic music and likes to program the night as if it were a DJ set.
It is with some excitement then, that we present to you Martin Gore’s first ever DJ chart on Beatport.
Considering Depeche Mode have influenced so many dance music artists and DJs during their 30 year career, it is fascinating to see what interests them now.
As one might guess, Martin Gore’s chart focuses on the dark melodic side of techno, with underground producers featured alongside more established names like Minus’ Hobo, and Drumcode’s Adam Beyer.
Tokyo’s Yasuharu Motomiya grabs the No.1 spot with a drifting emotional techno cut on Grain Records. Sozonov’s edgy minimal rework of Russian producer Vavinchi’s ‘Astronaut’ follows at No.2.
There are hypnotic late night techno excursions from Wade Bennet and Haito Goepfrich, as well as wonky techno offerings from Rodriguez Jr. and Hobo.
Benny Knox’ engaging ‘Bass Rage’ completes the DJ chart, which all in all, leans right into the future (it’s quite amazing to think Depeche Mode are still in touch with the bleeding edge of electronic music, despite forming all the way back in 1980).
You can listen to Martin Gore’s DJ chart below (NOTE: the order of the chart is only correct on Beatport).
Martin Gore Beatport January 2010 Chart:
Niigata – Yasuharu Motomiya
Astronaut – Vavinchi
Disconnected – Haito Goepfrich
Butterfly – Wade Bennet
Remainings III – Adam Beyer
Simskiff – Alex Long
Symptom – Hobo
Chicky Chicky – Rodriguez Jr.
Pila – Bennito V
Bass Rage – Benny Knox

2010-08-28 - Slicing Up Eyeballs (U.S.) - Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore to join Alan Wilder at Recoil event in Santa Ana, Calif

[Click the link to watch the mysterious teaser that Daniel "BRAT" Barassi uploaded.]

http://www.slicingupeyeballs.com/2010/08/28/martin-gore-alan-wilder-recoil-santa-ana/

Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore to join Alan Wilder at Recoil event in Santa Ana, Calif.
Lots of peripheral action in the Depeche Mode camp: A day after Vince Clarke tweeted he is collaborating with former bandmate Martin Gore on a new song, a cryptic video surfaced that appears to announce Gore will join ex-DM member Alan Wilder at the latter’s Recoil event on Oct. 24 in Santa Ana, Calif.
As Modefan.com reports, the 11-second video, shown above, “suggests the upcoming appearance via a longitude/latitude puzzle. AW+MLG 33.745573 -117.867834 10 24 = Alan Wilder+Martin Lee Gore, Santa Ana, October 24, 2010.” Fan site Home also points out that Depeche Mode “web guy” Daniel Barassi tweeted the video earlier today. Tickets for Recoil’s Santa Ana performance already are on sale via Ticketmaster.
The appearance presumably is a returned favor by Gore after Wilder joined Depeche Mode onstage for the first time in 16 years this past February at a charity concert in London. Wilder and Gore performed the DM classic “Somebody” together (see video here).
The Santa Ana date is part of Wilder’s continually expanding fall Recoil tour, which, at this point, will include 14 performances in the U.S., Canada and Mexico in October and early November — including a Chicago double bill with Gary Numan — seven concerts in five South American nations in November, plus a pair of German concerts in late November.
UPDATE 8/29/10: Per an announcement on Recoil’s website, Gore “will be appearing to DJ at an aftershow DM/Recoil party.” Wilder writes that “Martin has graciously agreed to appear just for this event to spin a collection of his favourite tracks.”

Interview with Alan wilder: http://nevermindtheposers.com/2010/10/31/a-word-with-alan-wilder-5/
Quote
NVMP: Back in February of this year, you appeared as a special guest with Depeche Mode, performing a song with Martin Gore at Royal Albert Hall. Now, Martin Gore is guest DJing at a Recoil after-party. How did this come about? Has it opened up the possibility of a renewed professional relationship?
Alan Wilder: Martin and I enjoyed a good chat on the Albert Hall day, and he was in impressive shape having been on the wagon for about 3-4 years. He seemed like a completely different person – much more confident and outgoing. I liked the new Martin, so I just e-mailed him and asked if he would be interested in doing a spot, since he lives in that part of the world and I heard that he enjoys DJ-ing occasionally. It doesn’t imply any further work together, it’s just something fun for everyone attending hopefully.

Review by Diana Diaz: http://www.examiner.com/rock-music-in-los-angeles/recoil-at-the-galaxy-theater-santa-ana-10-24-10-with-alan-wilder-and-martin-gore-of-depeche-mode

(…)
DJ Martin Gore played a variety of trance tunes for a delighted crowd, delivering the other part of what they were there for. Gore approached DJing with a level of intensity akin to playing keyboards in a Depeche Mode concert. Wilder, Kendall, and Daniel Meyer of Architect watched the set from the side. The final song seemed to arrive far too soon, though he'd been on the decks for 90 minutes. The beautiful melody gradually decrescendoed while the tempo slowed. Gore smiled and bowed slightly before leaving the stage to loud cheers.
Several wanted a playlist, others wanted a cat t-shirt like the one he wore. Gore forever pushes just a little bit at the acceptable, even after all these years. Those there love Gore as he is. Non-fans might still think, “men don't like cats, men don't wear dark nail polish, men don't wear glitter on their faces...” Gore does.  And he used to push harder.  Besides, since when do real men even care what others think?
In a year of Depeche Mode dreams come true, seeing Wilder and Gore share the stage for the second time gives hope to their hearts. Many just never got over Wilder leaving DM, and those people are most likely the level of devotee who would follow Wilder's three So Cal concerts, or even just two.  www.DepecheMode.com displayed warm support of Wilder's tour and album release.  And the Depeche Mode love even extended to Gore working with other former member Vince Clarke who left the band and formed Yaz(oo) and Erasure.
