2015-12-07 - Musikkpraksis (Norway) - Gahan's Andre Akt

[Go here for the entire article. HOME member 'bongokid' translated this excerpt:]

About the following years of Depeche Mode recording:
Dave Gahan: The question is who are we gonna record with. We have produced three records with Ben Hillier now - it's time to do something new. I am sure old names will be brought up - Flood for example. Probably they will say no, just like us they have moved on since last time. One thing I have been wanting to do for a long time, since Christian Eigner and Peter Gordeno started playing with us, is to create a recording team that includes them, as we have so much fun on tour. Why not extend that to the recording studio? The truth is anything can happen - it's like an open book. But I am sure we will agree in the end.

2015-12-08 - HOME - Martin Gore and Dave Gahan at annual Charity:water ball... in New York!

[I wrote the article so I'm not sure how to credit the source, LOL.]

http://www.depeche-mode.com/2015/12/09/martin-gore-and-dave-gahan-at-annual-charitywater-ball-in-new-york/

Martin Gore and Dave Gahan at annual Charity:water ball... in New York!

Twitter user Alessandro Bandini has spotted Martin Gore last night at the 10th annual Charity:water ball at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and could not help but take a photo. Martin was joined by Peter Gordeno, and according to photographic evidence from the same Twitter user, Dave Gahan and his wife were also there. Martin Gore and his wife were part of the host committee for this ball. As you might remember, Martin joined Charity:water’s cause in 2012, and Depeche Mode supported Charity:water throughout their 2013 Delta Machine tour.

While Martin Gore supporting a charity is great and all, the more egotistical fan will wonder… Does this mean that the first steps towards making a new Depeche Mode album are about to be made? I mean, not only is Martin in NYC, but Peter Gordeno as well, and Dave Gahan stated in October:

“[…] I’m sure by the end of this year we’ll sit down together and talk about making another record. I know [Martin]’s began writing and loosely I’ve begun writing as well with Christian [Eigner] and Peter [Gordeno] from the band, and also Kurt [Uenala]. But that’s a long way off. Later in the year—I don’t know, in December or something—I’ll go out to his place or something and we’ll sit down and talk about it.”

and

“You know, I think that we still haven’t really explored the idea of bringing our band into the studio, i.e. Christian Eigner, Peter Gordeno. You know, going into the studio with a bunch of songs that we can maybe begin to record together in a different way.”

The evidence is adding up! Now we just have to wait and see…

2016-01-25 - The RobCast #68 (US) - Interview with Martin Gore from Depeche Mode

[At the very end of the podcast:]

Rob: There will be another Depeche Mode album?

Martin: We are planning a meeting in the next few weeks, and we are hoping to get started in April, I believe.

Rob: And do you have stuff swirling around in your head or in your harddrive? Do you have overall themes or ideas, or just specific little [hooks à la It's No Good]?

Martin: [...] Of course I got some songs finished and demoed, Dave's had some songs demoed, so we're in a good place, ready to get started.

2015-02-23 - Mojo (UK) - ALSO WORKING

[Scan taken from a website that illegally uploads PDF files of magazines.]

Dave Gahan tells MOJO that he and Martin Gore have been discussing a new Depeche Mode LP. Both he and Martin Gore were devastated by the death of Bowie, he says. "Martin was really shaken up. He doesn't show a lot of emotion that way but he told me he didn't sleep all night. So I told him we need to just write something, we need to express that, and he was like  'You're right'. "Its that English thing, you hold back your emotions but when someone opens the door and says 'we should say something' you go Yeah, of course we should".

2016-04-12 - Depeche Mode have entered a studio in Santa Barbara:

A family member of Andy Fletcher has said on the HOME forum that DM would enter a studio in Santa Barbara on Tuesday, April 12th. On April 11th, Jennifer Sklias-Gahan uploaded on Facebook a photo of her and Dave's daughter Stella, in which she was shown giving Dave a "send off" cake because he was going away to work for a month. On the night of April 11th to 12th, Dave was spotted at JFK airport in NYC (see here) and at Santa Barbara airport (see here).

Update: some photos by fans of DM outside a studio in Santa Barbara emerged in the following month, and a fan who took a photo with Martin in Santa Barbara on May 6th has said that it was the final day of that first recording session.

2016-05-09 - HOME - Depeche Mode are back in the studio

Depeche Mode are back in the studio

by PeterToo

We’re thrilled to finally report that Depeche Mode are back in the studio. Working with a new producer, the band have just finished the first string of studio sessions on what is to become their 14th album.

Sessions began in Santa Barbara on April 12th and wrapped this past weekend. Work will resume later this month.

Looking at the schedules for “Sounds Of The Universe” and “Delta Machine”, the timing could indicate a spring 2017 album release and tour.

This will be their first album since 2001s “Exciter” without Ben Hillier in the producer’s chair. Hillier helmed the sessions for “Playing The Angel”, “Sounds Of The Universe” and “Delta Machine”, producing more than 50 tracks for the band.

It's not Eno.

It's not Hillier.

It's not Wilder.

2016-06-01 - Depeche Mode start their second studio session again in Santa Barbara:

A family member of Andy Fletcher has said on the HOME forum on June 2nd that DM had entered a studio in Santa Barbara again, the day before. This session would be shorter than the first session, he said.

On June 9th, an electronic gear company uploaded a photo of Martin Gore and Kurt Uenala in a studio in Santa Barbara: https://www.facebook.com/analogcraftsman/photos/a.362884183783455.81993.362518707153336/1102414889830377/?type=3&theater

2016-06-09 - James Ford is the producer of Depeche Mode's upcoming album:

Twitter user @Ultra_Depeche spilled the beans by tweeting:

https://twitter.com/Ultra_Depeche/status/740809442141278212
Quote
"Depeche Mode are currently working on their 14th studio album with British producer "James Ford" #DM14 #DepecheMode"

Depechemode.de then copied this info, but did not credit @Ultra_Depeche as the source, and just presented it as fact: http://www.depechemode.de/james-ford-soll-neues-depeche-mode-album-produzieren-42603

Then Depeche-mode.com copied Depechemode.de's entire article: http://www.depeche-mode.com/2016/06/09/depechemode-de-james-ford-is-producing-the-next-album/

While this is not official confirmation, it seems that the two biggest DM fansites are very confident in copying @Ultra_Depeche's claim.
