Interview with Alan Wilder (Recoil, ex-Depeche Mode)

(…)

RoD: Could you name a record you’ve bought recently? What kind of music do you listen to nowadays?
Alan: The last album I heard was actually sent to me by Alessandro Cortini, whose project SONOIO I really like. Alessandro is an ex-member of NINE INCH NAILS (for those that don’t know) and he guested for Recoil at one of the events on the US tour. His music focuses on his use of the Buchla synthesiser, which I believe he designed himself - in fact he’s known for custom designing small synths which he sells with his CDs. A very clever and very charming bloke he is.

And the revelations didn't just stop there. During the interview Wilder also announced that he's also doing a remix for Alessandro Cortini, an Italian musician best known for touring and recording with Nine Inch Nails from 2004 to 2008. Currently, Cortini is also the frontman for the Los Angeles based electronic-alternative band Sonoio and that's the project Wilder made a remix for.

04-) You are also working on a couple of remixes for Alessandro Cortini. Would you like to collaborate with him in a more creative way in the future? I think you guys have a lot in common as musicians.
AW: Just one mix in fact which I am currently working on. Much like the DM remix, I felt that the song I chose of his was not fully realised in its arrangement & structure but had a strong melody and unique atmosphere. He generally, unlike many electronic artists, has a deep sense of melody, which as much as anything makes his music stand out from the crowd. His approach using sound is also a bit different. Wemet while I was touring in the US with Recoil and I found him to be a charming and unassuming character who I warmed to immediately.
