Translation:

Paul Kendall and Olivia Louvel were musically cemented by Dimitri Tikovoï after a Michael J. Sheehy concert in Paris October 2001.

They started to work together in January 2002 and developed the project throughout the next year. A few days work at the idylic studio of Alan Wilder (Recoil) bore the fruits for Alan's string arrangement on the track "Coma Idyllique". The cover version of "La Coco"(1930) which is normally associated with Fréhel, would appear to be a bizarre inclusion until the lyrics cried take me (translation in English available on request , lazy anglais). This new version with Sébastien Libolt's (VRP/LaTrabant) accordion emerged, simple and naked in Capture's electronic wasteland. So finally we arrive at the starting point for this first Digital Intervention which are the usual suspects : sex, obsession, sensuality, addiction. Long live the funeral march ...

Paul Kendall began his obsession with sound from an early age, after hearing the possibilities of vari-speed on a tape-recorder. Although studying mathematics at York University, his reason for going there was the profile of the electronic music department. During this one year period he learnt how sound could be manipulated. Then he returned to London for a nine year period working in a bank! By chance Kendall met Daniel Miller of Mute Records and found they shared a love of electro-acoustic music. At this time the first "affordable" multitrack tape machine was produced by Fostex, b16. Daniel invited paul to assist in setting up a studio for Mute artists' to use. It wasn't too long before he started engineering for different Mute artists. His reputation progressed over a number of years working on very diverse projects. In 1996 The Parallel Series was launched to allow Kendall to return to his first musical love, electro-acoustic. Finally in 1997 he left Mute to have more time to develop his composition and his two small children. London was becoming suffocating and in february 2002 he moved to Paris, the home of concrète, enfin ...

Olivia Louvel began her studies with classical singing. At the age of fifteen, she discovered Kurt Weill and then became interested in the performance of contemporary vocal music. Between 1993 and 1995, she worked with the Cie Les Arts Sauts where she sang a composition from Meredith Monk for voice and cello, called Madwoman's Vision (Olivia sang 12m in the air...). She toured in the European festivals until finishing with the Perth Festival in Australia. In 1996 she entered the Superior National Conservatory of Dramatic Art in Paris. She worked with many different directors, such as Klaus Michael Grüber and Jean-Yves Ruf. In 2001, she was invited to sing with La Trabant-Sébastien Libolt in the Saint Denis Festival. Since then she has been working in the theatre and preparing new musical projects.

"Capture", the brand new release by former Mute artist Paul Kendall and Olivia Louvel under the The Digital Intervention moniker will feature arrangements by ex-Depeche Mode member Alan Wilder so the German Alan Wilder fansite www.alanwilder.de announced. It's the first appearance of Alan Wilder in musicland since Recoil's highly acclaimed "Liquid" (2000) album. A few days work at the idylic studio of Alan Wilder bore the fruits for Alan's string arrangement on the track "Coma Idyllique" (an audio preview has been added below). The track will appear on "Capture" which will see a release on the 0101 label after seeing 4 releases of the The Parallel Series on Mute. You can read a full interview with Paul Kendall in the next Side-Line issue #46. 2003-11-01 - VNV Nation Forum - Neues von Alan Wilder

http://forum.vnvnation.de/electro-szene/bands-kuenstler/recoil-alan-wilder-2127/

2004-02-23 - Side-Line (Belgium) - Paul Kendall: Wetty sounds from Paris

http://www.side-line.com/interviews_comments.php?id=977_0_16_0_C

Paul Kendall: "Wetty sounds from Paris"

What the chip meant to IBM, well that's what Paul Kendall aka PK must have meant to a whole generation of artists going from A.C. Marias, Barry Adamson, Depeche Mode, Diamanda Galas, Die Krupps, Erasure, Fortran 5, Bruce Gilbert, Holger Hiller, Inspiral Carpets, I Start Counting, Laibach, Miranda Sex Garden Mkultra, Nitzer Ebb, Parallax, Recoil, Renegade Soundwave, Andrei Samsanov, Spell, These Immortal Souls, Frank Tovey, Wire to the likes of Nine Inch Nails and company. Being one of the most praised producers/engineers around he set up the by now famous Mute based Worldwide Studio where most of the label's top productions took shape. 2003 now sees PK start up a new project The Digital Intervention on his very own The Parallel Series label that moved from Mute to 0101 records. Side-Line got in touch with the living legend, who is surprisingly modest, in Paris during November 2003. A report. Also check www.parallelseries.com (By Bernard Van Isacker)

SL: How did ex-Depeche Mode member Alan Wilder come into the picture? Why his input in the "Capture" track "Coma Idyllique"?
PK: Most of the album was in the bag but I needed a couple of other colours to splash in there and so I approached Alan and Bruce Gilbert. Bruce was off touring with a new invigorated Wire so his guitar doesn't feature (sadly). I sent Alan "Coma" and asked if he could/would put some sort of string arrangement together and if we could do a little refining work to the album at his studio. I hadn?t the opportunity to listen properly to the music as I don?t have any speakers just headphones! Alan agreed which was great. His studio is a near perfect listening environment and Olivia and I spent a few wonderful days there. During this time Alan created the strings and we were well chuffed.

SL: Any desires?
PK: Desires? Paris is my desire, I love this place but I miss not seeing my kids as much as I would wish. Another Recoil album perhaps! I would also like a holiday.

The Digital Intervention - Capture (CD The Parallel Series/0101)

The biggest surprise however on this release is the track "Coma idyllique" featuring additional production by Alan Wilder who resurrected from the Recoil wintersleep to help out his longtime companion in the quest for the better sound. The production is very recognizable for those who have been following Alan Wilder's solo efforts through Recoil. I personally had the cd on random in order to discover by myself what song Wilder had worked on, I instantly recognized it.
