2003: Dave Gahan's Paper Monsters
« on: 29 March 2012 - 04:03:30 »
This thread contains all news items regarding Dave Gahan's Paper Monsters release.

Considering Counterfeit 2 and Paper Monsters were released at almost the same time, some media would report about Martin Gore's and Dave Gahan's solo work within the same news item. So, these news items appear in both threads.

We're still looking for more news items of any kind, if you have any, please let us know.

In 1998, Dave said this:

EM: Are you happy with the fact that Depeche Mode doesn’t make any of cover version from other people work?
DG: I don’t know. We haven’t thought about that too much. Martin has done cover version for Leonard Cohen tribute album, I did a cover version as well for Roxy Music tribute record recently. I’ve been recently singing with a couple of friends in New York on a project as well. And sometimes I do stuff like that, but I don’t put my name to it. It’s fun to do it, it’s nice to work with other people.

Solo project for Dave Gahan
AP Germany has revealed that the Depeche Mode singer has started working on his solo-project in his New York based homestudio. The material would involve Dave Gahan on vocals with as only company a chello. Gahan has told AP that a solo album is planned to be released by September 2002. On the record we will also have instruments such as piano and percussion. Gahan: "Jazz has been a very big influence for this material." Just wait and see.
It's not the first time Gahan records solo material. Earlier on he also recorded a coverversion of Roxy Music's "Song for Europe". A lot of recorded material was stolen out of his home when Gahan went into rehab back in the late nineties.

Alan Wilder to assist David Gahan on solo album?
Release magazine reported on March 29th that Dave would have said in an interview with the German newspaper Nordkurier, that he has asked Alan Wilder for assistance for his upcoming solo album. At first we thought this was an early April 1st joke. But it appears to be genuine afterall. Nordkurier talked to Gahan after the actual Hamburg press conference. At the moment of printing, we had not yet received an official statement from Alan Wilder regarding this. We hope to bring you more info in a few days time. Stay tuned!

Hum, hum... Un projet en solo ? ' Absolument. '

DEPECHE MODE: SOLO?
Dave Gahan plant Alleingang

Les morceaux que tu as enregistrés avec ton ami à New York, ils sont destinés à un projet solo ?
Exactement !

2001-07-26 - Ananova (UK) - Gahan wants Bjork on album

http://web.archive.org/web/20041118223017/http://strangefan.esmartmusic.com/Articles/ANANOVA_JULY_26_2001.htm

Gahan wants Bjork on album

Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan says he wants Bjork and PJ Harvey to appear on his forthcoming, as-yet-untitled solo album.
Gahan says that he will not quit Depeche Mode, even though he is to embark on a solo career.
He says: "I'd love to duet with PJ Harvey on the album. I know Nick Cave has already worked with her but she's got such a distinctive voice. I'd also like to work with Bjork. She's a real talent."
He adds: "I still want to be involved with Depeche Mode. Creatively, I'd say the band is now me and Martin writing the songs but there's things I want to say and experiences I want to put down that would better suit a solo album."
Dave also revealed that most of the songs featured on his album are numbers that did not make the Depeche Mode album, Ultra.
He says: "I presented some songs I'd written to the band for our last album but they didn't get on the final album.
"Then someone suggested I get together with a producer called Knox Chandler and we started working on those songs and other ones in New York last year. It should be out this time next year."
Depeche Mode's new single, I Feel Loved, is released on July 30.

http://www.thefader.com/2001/07/27/dave-gahan-calls-on-pj-bjork/

Dave Gahan Calls On PJ, Bjork
According to www.ananova.com, Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan wants to enlist the two most talented women rockers today, Bjork and Ms. PJ Harvey – for his forthcoming solo studio album (and who wouldn’twant those two on their record?!). Gahan revealed, “I’d love to duet with PJ Harvey on the album. I know Nick Cave has already worked with her, but she’s got such a distinctive voice. I’d also like to work with Bjork. She’s a real talent.” Tell us somethin’ we don’t know, Davey. He also put to rest any question about the future of the Mode by saying, “I still want to be involved with Depeche Mode…but there’s things I want to say and experiences I want to put down that would better suit a solo album.”

GAHAN UND DIE SOLO-PLÄNE
Depeche Mode-Sänger über PJ Harvey und Björk
Schon seit geraumer Zeit werkelt Depeche Mode-Sänger Dave Gahan an seinem Solo-Debüt. \\"I'd love to duet with PJ Harvey on the album. I know Nick Cave has already worked with her but she's got such a distinctive voice”, sagte Gahan.

http://web.archive.org/web/20030814001849/http://www.mcm.net/news/index.php/23708/

GAHAN FOR IT!
DEPECHE MODE singer DAVE GAHAN has said he wants a selection of guest vocalists, including PJ HARVEY and BJORK, to appear on his forthcoming solo album.
According to www.ananova.com, Gahan said Harvey's "distinctive voice" is what attracts him to her as an artist.
He said: "I'd love to duet with PJ Harvey on the album. I know Nick Cave has already worked with her but she's got such a distinctive voice. I'd also like to work with Bjork. She's a real talent."
Gahan said that a solo record would not mean the end to Depeche Mode, who released a new album 'Exciter', earlier this year.
He said: "I still want to be involved with Depeche...but there's things I want to say and experiences I want to put down that would better suit a solo album."

2001-08-13 - Release Magazine (Sweden) - News

http://web.archive.org/web/20020120012427/http://www.releasemagazine.net/News/news0108a.htm

David Gahan on solitary mission
Depeche Mode front man David Gahan wants a selection of guest vocalists, including P J Harvey and Björk to appear on his forthcoming solo album.
- I know Nick Cave has already worked with her, but she's got such a distinctive voice. And Björk is a real talent, Gahan says.
Jazz has been a huge influence for Gahan's work, which includes instruments such as chello, piano, and percussion. He started working in his New York based home studio last year, and will continue working after the "Exciter Tour". The album should be released around September 2002, by Mute Records of course.
He also says that, naturally a solo record would not mean the end of Depeche Mode. David and the rest of the band are currently on the road (USA), and will soon bring the "Exciter Tour" to Europe.
- I still want to be involved with Depeche Mode, but there are things I want to say and experiences I want to put down that would better suit a solo album.
Both Martin Gore, and ex-Depeche Mode member Alan Wilder have released their own solo albums in the past. Alan Wilder is currently working on a couple of new songs, but nothing has been scheduled for release yet. /Jesper Lakman (Uselink)
