BLEEPS & CLONX FÜR DEPECHE MODE
Mark Bell produziert neues Album
11.08.2000, 14:12, Text: Autor unbekannt

"The handshake seals the contract...." Back in 1980, Mute Records boss Daniel Miller sealed a contract with Depeche Mode with a simple handshake. No written details, no formal contracts. 20 years later and over 35 million records sold, Depeche Mode remain loyal to their indie label roots. Bong, band's official magazine, has reported that the only outside musicians used so far, is a string section for one song. It happened during summer recording session in June-July. After that session Andy and Dave spent holiday in different locations. Martin hasn't had a chance for a break - he has been very busy with song writing before and after summer recordings. Album hopefully will be ready before Xmas.

More details came from band's management:
new album producer - Mark Bell
extra musicians used - a string section (string quartet, and a solo cello)
Knox Chandler (the solo cello player) also arraged the quartet
number of tracks (tentatively) - 9 or 10

In an interview with VIVA 2 Daniel Miller said that new album will be hopefully available in May 2001, and will be Depeche Mode best ever and very innovative album.

The New Album Is Shaping Up - After returning to the studio in June and July with producer Mark Bell (best known for work with Bjork), Depeche Mode took the month of August off. Martin was busy writing more songs for the new album, and had no time for a real holiday. Andy went to Mallorca with his family for two weeks in August. Dave took the longest break of the three, managing a trip to London to visit family, before spending two weeks on the Isle Of Wight, then flying off to Greece for 2 more weeks.
At the moment, several songs are almost 100% complete, and the new material sounds excellent. The only outside musicians used so far is a string section for one of the new songs. With the band currently working on the next recording period in the US at the present, the plan is to complete a third, and possibly final recording period, by Christmas. At that point, we should have a much better idea on how the new album is coming together.
