1997-06-30 - B5 Records - Dreamhome Heartaches

http://web.archive.org/web/19971110062306/http://www.b5records.com/roxy.html

Order Dreamhome Heartaches through Music Blvd!

This Tribute to Roxy Music was created and developed by John Taylor and Hein Hoven. All artist and producer royalties will be donated to The Los Angeles Childrens Hospitals High Risk Youth Program. John and Hein learned of the High Risk Youth Program while reading "Raised By Wolves" by Jim Goldberg, a photographer/writer who spent a total of ten years interviewing and photographing "street kids" and homeless youths in Hollywood, Portland and San Francisco. It became apparent to them that this organization is the link that lends a hand financially to many of the outreach programs around Los Angeles. Los Angeles / Hollywood is the capitol of homeless and runaway youths, but the problem is growing nation wide. Social workers and Hospitals from other cities are observing the inner-workings of the High Risk Youth Program so that they to will be able to provide for the growing number of troubled youths.
B5 is extremely proud of the unique texture of "Dreamhome Heartaches". It's contributing artists range from international superstars to local unsigned bands whose talent is highly regarded by the two Executive Producers (Hein &John).
The finishing touches are just being completed on Dreamhome Heartaches. You can get the album later this summer. 'Till then listen to these clips:
Pyjamarama -- Theodore
Trash -- Nancy Boy
Love is the Drug -- Dads Porno Mag
Song for Europe -- David Gahan
Angel Eyes -- Three Alarm Fire
Just Another High -- John Taylor
Virginia Plain -- Feldman, Scabies, Boston & Hay LLC
To Turn You On -- John Shanks
Out Of The Blue -- Mavis Piggott
In Every Dreamhome a Heartache -- Xan
Street Life -- Phantom 5
Rain Rain Rain -- Boyfriend, Girlfriend
Casanova -- Denueve
Remake/Remodel -- Vitamade
More Than This -- Low Pop Suicide

David sings Roxy Music - 1997
A Roxy Music tribute CD is coming out any day now (supposedly), and it features David singing the old Roxy Music song "Song For Europe". Go to the B5 Records web page to check out a 30 second RealAudio streaming sample. B5 Records, by the way, is run by John Taylor (Duran Duran), and Hein Hoven (produced Stray Cats and Bush, among others). There's a few other details about this CD on my David page.

A few people have obtained copies at recent John Taylor gigs in Los Angeles, but no copies seem to have hit mass distribution yet. An album cover shot is provided below.

EM: Are you happy with the fact that Depeche Mode doesn’t make any of cover version from other people work?
DG: I don’t know. We haven’t thought about that too much. Martin has done cover version for Leonard Cohen tribute album, I did a cover version as well for Roxy Music tribute record recently. I’ve been recently singing with a couple of friends in New York on a project as well. And sometimes I do stuff like that, but I don’t put my name to it. It’s fun to do it, it’s nice to work with other people.

2003-04-21 - Dave Gahan - Exclusive Interview

http://papermonsters.davegahan.com/news/index.html

QUESTION: This isn't your first solo project. "A Song For Europe".
DG: Oh yeah, that's right. Yeah, I did that. Actually, that kind of taught me a lot. I've always had this fear, hence the title "Paper Monsters", this fear of working of other people, different people, not good enough to do that, frightened to be judged. It's crap. Life's too short to not doing the things you really feel passionate about. The title came from that idea as well. I create all these monsters for myself. These fear based things. They're not real. They're really thin, and I can easily rip them down. I've learned that it's much better for me to work through that stuff, then stay hidden behind it, because If I stay hidden behind long enough, I really lose myself. I disappear. I can function like that - that's the scary part. I'm at a point in my life where I can't get away with that anymore. I can't pretend I'm hiding for long. After a few days, I need to break out. I need people around me, as well, that help to bring that stuff out, and that's what was good with everyone I worked with as well. They were constantly encouraging me. Daniel [Miller], Jonathan [Kessler], my wife, Ken [Thomas] and Knox believed in the songs. That was really nice, to believe that someone felt that I could do something more than sing someone else's songs.
